A Few Easy Steps Is All It Takes

Step 1: Gather Your Things

We recommend having the following items on hand as they will be needed to confirm your identity and satisfy regulatory requirements:

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • A photo of your driver's licence
  • A photo of a void cheque

When you’ve finished your application, we'll review your documents and submit them to NBIN Inc., where your account will be held in your name.

Once your account is opened at NBIN Inc., we'll provide you with access to your account.

Before any trades occur in your portfolio, we’ll make sure you have a chance to speak with a registered portfolio manager to make certain any questions you might have are answered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is my money held?

All Nest Wealth client accounts are held at National Bank Independant Network(NBIN), a subsidiary of National Bank. NBIN is a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF), which covers each account up to $1,000,000 against insolvency or bankruptcy. Your money never is handled by Nest Wealth and all transactions are between yourself and NBIN.

What type of accounts can you open?

You can open all types of accounts - both registered and non-registered accounts, such as cash, TFSAs, RRSPs, Spousal RSPs, RRIFs, RESPs. We work with personal, joint, corporate and trust accounts.

How do most people get a copy of their void cheque and driver’s license?

There are several ways to obtain a copy of your void cheque in digital format. Most banks provide a sample void cheque right in your online banking. If you cannot get a copy from your online banking, you can write out a void cheque and take a snapshot of the physical copy using your smartphone or scanner. Similarly, you can also take a photo or scan your driver’s license.

In addition to creating your portfolio using the best solutions and research available. You'll enjoy the benefit of a portfolio that is globally diversified across industry sectors, investment types and asset classes, including: domestic equities, US equities, emerging market equities, international equities, government fixed income, real-return bonds, real estate and cash.

We’ll also monitor and rebalance your portfolio when it starts to drift from your suggested asset mix. Each year we check in and make certain that your portfolio accurately reflects your changing life. . This allows you to enjoy the peace of mind that professional wealth management brings.

We do all this while keeping your costs down. Our management fees start at $20 per month and are capped at $80 per month regardless of your account size.

Who is your portfolio manager?

Your portfolio manager will always be someone who has been registered with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and has a fiduciary obligation to put your best interest first.

Randy Cass, CFA, LLB, MBA is a portfolio manager at Nest Wealth and has been in the financial services industry for over 15 years prior to starting Nest Wealth.

Randy managed quantitative portfolios at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and institutional assets at Orchard Asset Management. He also hosted BNN’s Market Sense between 2012 and 2014.
